19th century stationery Boulle marquetry letter box by J.C.Vickery. This brass or bronze marquetry box dates to approx. 1850s. It is 1/4 domed and has four compartments, shagreen

Used condition with common signs of age and wear. The letter box has scratches and displays considerable signs of wear; Could benefit from some polishing and overall TLC

The \"Boulle\" name comes from the famous André-Charles Boulle who was made famous for veneering furniture with marquetry of tortoiseshell, brass and pewter. Although he did not invent the technique, Boulle mastered the art of this complex marquetry and lent his name to its common name: boulle work. Boulle also specialised in floral marquetry in both stained and naturally coloured woods. Many of his designs are illustrated in a book of engravings published around 1720.

Swiss 8-day movement, 1/4 Repeater. Hour, minute and second Clock front reads “Swiss made“ on the bottom, \"J.C.Vickery. To Their Majesties 179,181 &183 Regent St W. 5 1/4\" x 4 3.4\" (height x width of box). Clock can be removed from the box.

The case is lined with green velvet on the inside and has a little window through which the dial can be seen.

The pocket watch is in good, used condition with common signs of age and wear. The case has scratches on the front side and displays considerable signs of wear on the back; the small back support is defective, but still works.
