Vtg Japanese Wooden Kokeshi Doll

This vintage Japanese wooden doll is a Kawatsura kokeshi, a traditional craft from Akita prefecture. It has a classic design (round head, cylindrical body) and is made from a single piece of wood. The body is straight with a tapered neck, and it is painted with a vertical stripe, which makes the doll appear to be wearing a kimono.  The facial expression is calm, and the bobbed hairstyle is painted black.  It has been wax-coated to give it a shine. Kokeshi dolls are traditional toys, figurines, and charms crafted from wood that are an excellent decorative representation of Japanese craftsmanship and traditional culture.
